British Empire Medal

Jenny Newman has been volunteering for Bible Society since the 1970s, having joined the Exmouth Action Group when her friend from college was involved. In 2017 friends from the community enabled us to have our say about how much Jenny has done for Bible Society as part of the nomination, and we were delighted to be able to add our endorsement to all the others.

In May last year Jenny received a letter telling her that she had been awarded a British Empire Medal in The Queen’s Birthday Honours List for her services to the Exmouth community. The letter also said that she should not tell anyone so she checked the list to make sure her name was definitely on there. Jenny said “It’s a terrific honour because I was put forward for what I have done in the community. It’s a lot of little things that I have done rather than one big thing.”

Whilst involved in lots of groups in Exmouth, Jenny has been the Secretary and the heart of the Bible Society Action Group for many years. The fact that they continue to support us today says something important about Jenny, her love for the Bible and her understanding of its importance to everyone here and abroad.

We count it a privilege to serve alongside Jenny and are very grateful for what she does and the way in which she does it. If you have stories of other people you know who have gone over and above in serving Bible Society then please do let us know, as we love hearing your stories.
