Dave’s story

Author: Bible Society, 7 February 2020

‘I love this copper beech. It makes me feel awestruck. It is so majestic. I’m not a particularly religious person, but it makes you stop and think, in terms of the beauty that’s been created, and it’s something that we must cherish and look after.

‘I think it’s easier to feel closer to God out here. Put me in a street with tall buildings and I can’t stand it. Somewhere like this you feel at peace and at ease.

‘I suffer from mental health problems and working here is such a distraction. It’s helped me immeasurably. I have gone through three crisis periods and probably wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t particularly for this.’
