Stories about what is happening locally will be very welcome. Open the Book retains the right to edit any contribution.

We attend many events throughout the year. These can include Mission Fairs, Big Church Day Out, CRE, New Wine, and of course, our famous Bob Hartman Storyteller days. Some of these events include workshops where you could participate and others demonstrate storytelling OtB style.

We offer information and training sessions to new and existing teams. Julie Jefferies, who heads up Open the Book, brings a wealth of experience as a trainer in the commercial sector as well as enthusiasm as an Open the Book Storyteller. She has been training around the country to ensure all our volunteer trainers are up to speed as well as equipping our Regional Training & Development Officers to grow teams in new areas.

An Information Session (around two hours) gives you an overview and feel for Open the Book. It would be an ideal introduction for your church leadership, potential Storytellers, Head Teacher or anyone who is thinking about doing or having OtB in their community. Anyone can turn up to an information session to find out more before they make any commitments.

An Initial Training workshop (whole day) has more hands-on practicalities about being a Storyteller and gives you a chance to have a go. This training is aimed at people wanting to start new OtB teams. Again you don’t have to commit if you find it is not for you but gives you space to practice and find out. It will give you important basic training and information that you need to know in order to register.

Existing Training (half day) is for registered Storytellers who will get key updates and refresher ideas about how to present stories in different ways. It could be a chance to meet other Storytellers from other churches and share ideas and concerns about what does and doesn’t work. Ideally teams would try to attend an Existing Training session every year.

Please contact us if you are unsure which event you should be arranging or attending or if you want to find out more about how to become a trainer.
