ADVISORY GROUP

The Advisory Group for Open the Book contributes ideas to support the development of Open the Book through strategy and activity. It provides guidance and advice to Bible Society staff and leadership to:

  • recognise the perspectives of the different contributors to the success of Open the Book, i.e. supporters, storytelling teams, schools, churches, employed staff and other contributors;
  • seek advice on the best ways to communicate with and inspire -Storytellers and others in the nation so that Open the Book prospers and grows.

The Advisory Group brings a variety of expertise and perspectives. Currently the Advisory Group is made up of some Bible Society employees, some ex Open the Book trustees and some with Education experience.

Leanne Long

Leanne Long

Leanne Long has been involved with Open the Book in Bedford for many years, contributing her diverse skills in drama, writing, teaching, local government, strategic planning, and project management. She currently works for World Vision, the international poverty relief charity, Having been a member of a local storytelling team, she remains a firm champion for the grass roots power of Open the Book.

Originally from South Africa, Leanne is married to Tim with two teenaged daughters.

Peter LeRoy

Peter LeRoy

Peter LeRoy, formerly Chairman of Trustees of Open the Book and involved in its national development was a headmaster, teacher of religious studies, a Lay Member of the Church of England's General Synod and Board of Education, and also Vice-Chairman of Scripture Union. A Reader at his local church, after 10 years he still much enjoys being an Open the Book team member.

 

Barbara Meardon

Barbara Meardon

Barbara Meardon is a Primary School teacher and School Parish Partnership Manager and Children’s and Families Adviser for Salisbury Diocese. These roles mean Barbara is in a great position to see the impact of Open the Book on children, schools and the volunteers from churches in over 80 schools in Salisbury Diocese. As an experienced primary school teacher she can vouch for the value of the material and its impact on RE and spiritual development but most of all she loves what Open the Book does for people and how it shares the good news with so many, reaching the parts other collective worship schemes sometimes don’t reach.

Tony Jeans

Tony Jeans

Tony Jeans has a professional background in Further and Higher Education and in Vocational Education and Training. He is an Elder and Lay Preacher in the United Reformed Church and is currently Chair of the Executive of the West Midlands Synod URC Trust. He has an interest in community theatre as a producer and director. He is part of an ecumenical Open the Book Team.

 

Susan Mears

Susan Mears

Susan joined the leadership team in November 2013 as Director: People responsible for HR, Organisation Development, Voluntary Services, Brand and Marketing. Susan previously worked for 18 years as a senior executive with a large mutual organisation leading the development and implementation strategies for organisational effectiveness. Susan is married to Adrian and they have 4 children and 5 grandchildren.

 

Paul Woolley

Paul Woolley

Paul joined Bible Society in January 2011 as Deputy Chief Executive. He was founding Director of Theos, the public theology think tank, between 2005 and 2010. In addition to previously working as a Parliamentary Researcher and directing a political unit, he has had extensive public affairs experience. He is married to Ruth, and they have two sons, Amos and Atticus.
