The Secret of Kells - film discussion

A blend of British and Irish church history with Celtic mythology, this traditional animation presents a highly imaginative fictional story based
around the Book of Kells, one of the greatest illuminated manuscripts of the Gospels.

The book’s creation is seen through the adventures of young Brendan, a boy living in a remote medieval outpost that comes under attack by the Vikings. The fight is on not only to finish the book, but to protect it from the raiders, so that it might become a beacon of hope to the world.

Themes: art; spirituality; mission or isolation?; knowledge and wisdom; Celtic Christianity; Christianity and paganism/New Age

Cautions: Some scenes too intense for younger children.
