How to run a book club

Taking on Bible Book Club but never run – or even been to – a book club? Here are a few tips…

1. Decide how often you'll meet

A monthly meeting normally gives people enough time read the book and is frequent enough to build momentum.

2. Devise a system for choosing a book

Will you take it turns to choose a book? Take a vote? Decide to work through a section or genre of the Bible?

3. Choose your venue

Cafes, pubs or someone’s home can work well.

4. Pick a group size

Four-six can work well. More than eight might feel a bit too large for everyone to have a say.

5. Decide how you’ll facilitate the group

Will the same person lead the discussion each time or will you let each person share the responsibility?

6. Encourage members to bring short notes

A few observations or opinions jotted down on a postcard while people are reading will help them remember what they want to share when you meet.

7. Keep conversation flowing

Use our Bible Book Club reading guides to help aid your reflections, questions and discussion.

8. Enjoy!
