Bring God’s Word back to Sellase’s village
Meet Sellase. He lives in Badesa, Ethiopia. Back in the 1970s, he used tapes of the New Testament to lead his friends to Christ as many of them – including Sellase himself - could neither read nor write. But his tapes broke through over-use.
So, for 40 years, Sellase hasn’t had an audio Bible. He’s relied on church sermons and his daughter reading the Bible to him. He’s remained faithful. But he longs to spend time on his own with God’s Word.
With your help, his wait could be over.
£40 could provide 400 Scripture leaflets for new readers
£80 could provide two Proclaimer audio Bibles and set up listening groups in villages like Sellase’s
£320 could teach 40 people to read using Bible-based material
In Ethiopia, two-thirds of people are illiterate. For them, hearing is everything. Which is why the Proclaimer audio Bible is so brilliant. It looks like a radio, but is loaded with a New Testament in a local language. It’s solar-powered and you can wind it up, so it can be used anywhere.
It is Sellase’s prayer that the Proclaimer would come to his village.
‘People in other churches have told us about the Proclaimer; about how they can listen to it every day and visit the sick with this material,’ said Sellase. ‘We are hoping that it is coming to us. We are very ambitious to grow as a church. I know the Proclaimer would deepen our faith.’
With your help, his prayer could be answered.
These words are written on the wall of Sellase’s mud and straw home:
‘The Lord will fulfil his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever.’ Psalm 138.8 (ESV)
Sellase has been waiting 40 years to listen to the Bible again. Will you bring God’s Word back to his village?
Your gift today could bring God’s precious Word to Sellase – and others like him around the world. Please help in whatever way you can.
