As Pakistan experiences the worst floods for more than 80 years, the Pakistan Bible Society, with prayers and practical support, is coming to the aid of families who have lost everything.

Bible Society staff report people are experiencing emotional turmoil after losing loved ones, belongings and property in the floods.  They urgently need clothes, bed sheets, water containers and food.  Christians are longing for the reassurance and hope that they find in their Bibles.

Speaking from Bible House in Lahore, Justus Nassir, the Bible Society’s spokesperson asked for prayers from Bible Society supporters around the world:

“I ask you to pray for the people who have lost their cattle, animals and other assets.  May God give them the courage to be bold at this difficult time.  Many have no food, no shelter and no electricity, they need something to eat, as well as medicines and blankets.”

Anthony Lamuel, the General Secretary, is meeting regularly with church leaders in Peshawar to determine how the Bible Society can support churches responding to the devastating floods.

Around 1,500 Christian families in the predominantly Muslim flooded areas have been affected.  Along with their neighbours they have lost their homes and many household items including their Bibles.

In addition to food, drinking water, bed sheets, clothes and other household items, the Pakistan Bible Society initially hopes to provide thousands of Bibles and New Testaments to Christians who have lost their Bibles in the floods.  Some of the aid given will be distributed to Muslim families, providing a practical opportunity to share the compassionate message of the gospel with all.
