Thanks to Bible Societies, Haitian Bible Society distributes 'more than 100,000 Bibles'

The Haitian Bible Society says its been able to get more than 100,000 Bibles and 20,000 New Testaments to people following an appeal for help after the earthquake two years ago.

Many Haitians are complaining that nothing has changed since the quake hit on January 12 2010. There are still many houses that need to be rebuilt and people are still living in refugee camps in Port-au-Prince, according to the Haitian Bible Society.

But General Secretary Magda Victor says, 'For the Bible Society, though, there have been positive developments.

'Above all, I would like to take this occasion to thank once again the many Bible Societies that have helped us. With their assistance, we’ve been able to distribute more than a hundred thousand Bibles and more than 20,000 New Testaments over the last two years to Haiti’s Churches, and their gratitude is clear’

Bible Society supporters in England and Wales were among those  who responded to the appeal for ten of thousands of Scripture portions designed for disaster victims. The booklets focused on bringing words of comfort and hope from the Bible, as well as practical steps following a crisis.

Magda says, ‘The Bible Festival held in December was the most successful ever in all the Churches. And our fundraising doubled in 2011.'
