For the first time Christmas 2008 will be a public holiday in Nepal. And the churches there are seizing the moment.

You’ll be overjoyed to hear the work God has been doing in Nepal.

• The Church has grown from around 30,000 people 15 years ago to 700,000 believers today. This means over 95 per cent of Christians in Nepal are recent converts – and the Bible is essential to them.
• Fifteen years ago, Christians in Nepal risked imprisonment. Today the Church in Nepal has official freedom, and the government has even given official recognition to the Nepal Bible Society.
• The Nepalese government has announced that this year Christmas Day will be celebrated as a national holiday for the first time.

These are historic times for Nepalese Christians. So why do they need your help?

This good news comes at a cost.

Demand for Scriptures is soaring. But many Nepalese can only afford a copy of the Bible if it is heavily subsidised. This is stretching the funds of the Nepal Bible Society.

Through your generosity, we will help the spread of the gospel in Nepal, the world’s 12th poorest nation, by providing:

• New translations for some of the largest language groups
• Braille and large-print Bibles
• Scripture portions and Bible-story booklets
• Audio recordings in new languages for those unable to read
• The complete translation of the Tibetan Bible for the five million Tibetan speakers
• The Bible on solar-powered microchip for those who live without electricity in the mountains
