Bible stories
Bible Stories – the Bible is full of them
The Bible is known for the stories it tells. These Bible stories are rich in meaning, are widely known and have passed from generation to generation.
Some of the best know Bible stories spring from the history of the Jewish people. They include:
- Adam and Eve as God’s first creation.
- Noah’s ark and the great flood.
- Moses being found in the bulrushes.
- The Ten Commandments being given to Moses.
- David killing Goliath with a stone from his sling.
- Daniel in the lion’s den.
- Samson the strongman having his hair cut.
Well known Bible stories also include those that tell of the life of Jesus including:
- Christmas – his birth to the virgin Mary in a stable.
- Feeding 5,000 with just a few loaves and fish.
- Walking on water.
- Stilling a violent storm just by telling it to stop.
- Raising his friend Lazarus from the dead.
- Easter – his death on a cross and rising to life after three days.

Other well known Bible stories came from the lips of Jesus in the form of parables, which are ‘earthly stories with a heavenly meaning’.
They include:
- The prodigal, or ‘lost’, son who wasted his inheritance and came home to say sorry.
- The sower – who spread seed on good and bad soil.
- The wise and foolish builders – one built on rock and the other on sand.
- The good Samaritan – who cared for his neighbour.
- The lost sheep – and the farmer who left ninety nine to find the lost one.
- The talents – where servants were trusted with their master’s wealth and one just buried it.
Many of these Bible stories have found their way into great works of art and music.
