Lectio Divina
Lectio Divina is a dynamic way of reading the Holy Scriptures which has been around since AD 300.
With the Church

Many assume Christians are avid Bible readers and confident in what they know about it and how to use it.
Today, this is not as true as it was. The Bible is less read than in the past. In part this is because the era of private, book-based, study has gone. So we are working to provide new ways to help people engage with the Bible in today’s culture.
At the same time, many Christians struggle to apply the Bible to the way they live. And we are responding by helping churchgoers find practical ways to relate the Bible’s wisdom to their lives and communities.
Our activities and resources designed to help those in the Church engage with the Bible more effectively include:
- The Poverty and Justice Bible, which highlights more than 2,000 passages that relate to poverty and injustice – two of the biggest issues of our day. It also includes a ‘think it through’ guide that relates the issues to daily life. Find out more or buy a copy at www.povertyandjusticebible.org
- lyfe, a new approach where small groups meet in their local coffee shop or pub around the Bible. Together they go through the three steps of reading, reflecting and responding. Find out more at www.lyfe.org.uk
- Bible Sunday, an annual set of resources for churches to focus on the value of the Bible for them and for others.
- You’ve Got the Time, a programme where churches listen to the whole New Testament together over a 40-day period.
- Bible reading guides, such as Lectio Divina to aid personal engagement with the Bible.
- Workshops to equip church leaders to teach the Bible in inspiring ways.
- Discussion material to unpack the Bible in fresh and challenging ways, such as The Passion resource pack.
Speaking up for lyfe
Kris Lannen, a Christian from Cornwall, who started up a lyfe group with friends, says, ‘As lyfe encourages people to take Bible discussion into a public arena, it adds an element of risk. As a Christian who also enjoys surfing, this is an element within my spiritual journey that I particularly appreciate.’
