Responding to HIV/AIDS

The Bible is proving to be a powerful weapon in the war against HIV/AIDS and its impact on lives across Africa.
Our unique project, called The Good Samaritan, trains communities to behave and think differently, using the parable Jesus told about the Good Samaritan.
Workshops are run by church leaders, particularly in rural areas where people are most affected by the pandemic.
The workshops:
- Use flipcharts and DVDs to dispel misconceptions, reduce stigma and help reduce infection rates.
- Present the Bible’s teachings on acceptance, love and abstinence, which are discussed at great length.
- Generate an atmosphere of openness by encouraging participants to act out sketches, songs and dances.
This is a wonderful example of the impact the Bible can have on lives and attitudes. Through The Good Samaritan project it is – is being witnessed across the world. It is:
- Bringing people to faith – as they encounter the Bible’s life-changing message.
- Transforming communities – as they learn acceptance and understanding.
- Saving lives – by teaching people to make the right choice.
- Equipping the churches – by showing them how to be Good Samaritans.
- Bringing comfort – by making the Bible’s message real to those who suffer.
Change through The Good Samaritan
‘I am alive because of the Bible. It has changed my life!’ So says 40-year-old Naomi Daniel, a farmer in rural Tanzania. She is HIV positive and her village, Nkulabi, has one of the highest rates of HIV/AIDS in the country.
Naomi has found hope through The Good Samaritan programme. ‘I want to do what the Bible says,’ Naomi explains, ‘because there is hope in its teachings. Now I am free, not burdened by my status.’
