Braille Bibles
Around the world, more than 300 million people are either blind or not able to see well enough to read.
This is why Bible Society is committed to making the Bible available in Braille.
Braille brings 18 year old God’s word
At a mission centre for visually-impaired people in Burkina Faso, 18 year old Odile Ouedraogo moved her fingers slowly and carefully over a page of raised dots. She was reading Mark’s Gospel in Braille and so encountered the Bible for the first time in her own language.
‘I cannot believe it!’ Odile cried. ‘I can read with my fingers in my language. This gives me such strength!’
Blind at four – now Christian leader
As a four year old Ram Bahadur Mukhiya went blind from measles. But at a special school run by The Salvation Army – where he became a Christian – he learnt to read Braille.
Now Ram leads the Nepal Fellowship for the Handicapped. ‘There are many people who need to be reached with God’s love through the Bible’ he says.
