Strategic Leadership Team
The strategic direction and day-to-day leadership of the Bible Society Group is in the hands of a Strategic Leadership Team. This is led by James Catford, the Group Chief Executive Officer.
The Bible Society Group is organised into three distinct but related arms, Charity, Enterprise and Services. The Charity arm comprises our national and international Programme, Fundraising and Communications. The Enterprise arm includes our trading company and other smaller business units. The Services arm provides the organisational infrastructure (e.g. Finance and HR) to support the work of the other two arms.
James Catford
Group Chief Executive
James was appointed Chief Executive in 2002 and Group Chief Executive in 2008. He has a background in commercial book publishing having been publishing director at both HodderHeadline and HarperCollins. His non-executive roles include vice-Chair of Renovarè, chair of Renovarè Britain & Ireland and vice-chair of Amity Printing Company, Nanjing. He is married to Sue, and they live in central London.

Paul Woolley
Executive Director of Charity
Paul took up his post in January 2011. He was founding Director of Theos, the public theology think tank, between 2005 and 2010. In addition to previously working as a Parliamentary Researcher and directing a political unit, he has had extensive public affairs experience. Paul is a Trustee of the Oasis Trust. He is married to Ruth, and they have one son, Amos.
Stuart Rivers
Executive Director of Enterprise
Stuart previously spent 15 years at Ericsson, developing international business, before being appointed as Global Contracts Director with Ericsson Enterprise in Sweden. He subsequently worked for the Salvation Army where, after two years as Community Programme Director in Worthing, he trained to become a Salvation Army Officer. Stuart is married to Carey, and they have six children and one grandchild.
Lesley Whelan
Executive Director of Services
Lesley has been a Director of Bible Society since 2002 and in her current post since 2009. In addition to a business background, she has a particular interest in organisation and staff development. As well as considerable experience in the charity sector, past roles include Production Management and Financial Services. Lesley enjoys an active role in both her church and community. She is married to Nick, and they have two sons.
