‘What can I do for you?’ Bible Society launches 2011 Christmas Campaign

This Christmas, we are aksing everyone to take part in a new campaign called: ‘What can I do for you?”

 A year after the success of the BBC TV drama the nativity, a Bible Society initiative, using the film, is set to get school children and church groups taking a fresh look at the story that lies at the heart of Christmas festivities.

A crisis in moral values lies at the heart of the global financial crisis, two leading commentators argued today. Jim Wallis, the best selling American author and adviser to the President of the United States, and Ken Costa, the investment banker were speaking at a lunch time event convened by Bible Society.

 ROLL ON CHRISTMAS is the First Coming as never seen before – an online, interactive nativity play on Facebook narrated by multi-award winning comedian Milton Jones.

The scene will be instantly familiar – a smelly stable in Roman- occupied Bethlehem. But the action will be as much Marx Brothers as Mary and Joseph, Mission Impossible as Matthew’s Gospel.

The world’s first digital, handwritten Bible has been completed. Over the last 5 months, the People’s Bible tour has visited 202 towns, cities and villages across Great Britain and travelled over 17,000 thousand miles, 

The Prime Minister, David Cameron, has written his chosen two verses from the book of Philippians for The People’s Bible project. The Prime Minster chose his verses from Philippians 4: 8-9.

Today at 11am, we at Bible Society – like millions of people throughout the country – stopped work and gathered together for two minutes silence to remember those who have died in the line of duty.

Front-page adverts, placed by the Egyptian Bible Society in eight Egyptian national newspapers, have been allowed to quote the Bible for the very first time.

The Bible is being used to transform the lives of thousands of boys rescued from the streets in Ethiopia. The Lighthouse Boys Home has helped some 6,000 boys since it opened 13 years ago. Bible Society gives the home copies of the Bible as books and in audio.
