United Bible Societies

Bible Society is part of a global network of  145  independent national Bible Societies working in over 200 countries and territories.

This network – or fellowship – represented by all these individual Bible societies is known as United Bible Societies (UBS).

It has a central services base in Reading, set up in 1946. This provides the resources to:

  • Coordinate the work of the growing number of national Bible Societies.
  • Act as a hub for communication and financial transactions.
  • Provide specialist central resources that reduce duplication.
  • Represent the global body of Bible Societies.

All national Bible Societies work to make the Bible available and affordable in their own countries, through translation, distribution and production.

Some Bible Societies, like Bible Society in England and Wales, also work to engage those the general public with the Bible’s life-changing message and seek ways to change the perception as to the significance of the Bible for society and daily life.
